A donation funds a programme. A membership funds the institution that makes programmes possible — and gives you a vote in where it goes next.
Regular income is what makes planning possible.
One-off donations arrive when they arrive. Membership contributions arrive every week, month or year, which is what allows us to commit to a candidate's twelve months of language training, or to promise a school that support continues next term.
Membership contributions are tax-deductible in the same way as donations. A receipt is issued on request.

Rights, not perks.
Membership in a German e.V. is a legal status, not a subscription tier. It comes with a say in how the association is run.
A vote
Members vote at the Mitgliederversammlung: on the board, on the annual accounts, and on changes to the Satzung.
The full picture
Members receive the annual activity report and the accounts, including what did not work.
A way in
Members can stand for the board, join a working team, or propose a project for the agenda.
How joining works
You choose a rhythm and pay the first contribution. The board confirms admission, which is a formality in all ordinary cases. You may leave at any time; contributions already paid are not refunded, in line with the Satzung.
Companies and institutions
Companies, foundations and associations can join as members or work with us through a partnership agreement, which usually fits corporate budgets better.
