Opportunities

Paid roles in a volunteer organisation.

Some work cannot be done in someone's spare time: coaching children twice a week, teaching a language to exam level, building software. For those roles we pay — within what a nonprofit is allowed to pay, and we say openly what that means.

Before you read further

This is not a salary. Here is what it is.

We are a registered nonprofit with no salaried staff. The board works unpaid and so do our volunteers. What we can offer for defined, regular work is compensation under the German rules for nonprofits — an allowance, a Minijob, or a fee for freelance work.

If you are looking for a full position with a full income, we are not that, and we would rather tell you now than waste your application.

How payment works

Three lawful routes, and the limits that come with them.

ROUTE 1

Trainer allowance

For coaching, teaching and other instructional work, German law allows a nonprofit to pay up to €3,000 per calendar year free of tax and social contributions (§ 3 Nr. 26 EStG). This is the usual route for coaches and tutors.

ROUTE 2

Volunteer allowance

For roles that are not teaching — administration, organisation, coordination — up to €840 per calendar year is tax-free (§ 3 Nr. 26a EStG). The two allowances cannot be claimed for the same activity.

ROUTE 3

Minijob or freelance fee

Where the work goes beyond an allowance, we can offer a Minijob within the statutory monthly limit, or a freelance contract for a defined piece of work, invoiced by you. Both are agreed in writing before anything starts.

Nonprofit law requires that any payment is reasonable for the work done (§ 55 AO). We tell you which route applies to a role before you commit, and we put it in writing.

SCHÖNEFELD · PRO LEAGUE ACADEMY

Football coaches

Regular training sessions with children and young people in Schönefeld. Coaching experience or a licence is welcome but not required; reliability week after week matters more. Compensated as a trainer allowance.

REMOTE · H.O.P.E.

German and French tutors

Teaching candidates in Benin towards the language level their training place requires. Online, in fixed weekly slots. Teaching qualification preferred. Compensated as a trainer allowance.

REMOTE · KINDORA

Software developers

Building the Kindora platform: giving, volunteer matching and NGO-to-NGO project matching. Freelance, scoped in defined pieces of work, subject to development funding being in place.

REMOTE · FUNDRAISING

Grant writing

Writing applications to foundations and public programmes in German. Experience with German or EU funding is the whole job. Freelance, per application or per hour.

Not on the list but think you belong here? Apply anyway and say what you would do. Several people working with us created their own role.

Working with children

One requirement we never waive.

Anyone coaching or teaching minors must present an extended certificate of good conduct (erweitertes Führungszeugnis) before their first session, and repeat it periodically. We reimburse the cost. There is no exception for anyone, including the board.

Training never takes place with one adult alone with one child, and our safeguarding rules are explained in the first conversation, not buried in a document.

Apply

No CV required. Tell us what you can do.

We reply to every application, including the ones we turn down, and we say why. If a role fits, the next step is a conversation, not a selection process.

You can also write directly to service@maroufadeyemi.org with the subject “Application”.

Or give time instead

Most of the work here is unpaid, and that is not a lesser thing.

Eleven volunteers across six teams carry this organisation, including the board. If you would rather give two hours a week than take a fee, that page is next door.
