Food Waste Is a Choice We Can Stop Making
"Feeding communities. Fighting waste. Building sustainable systems."
1.3 Billion Tons of Food Wasted Annually
Globally, approximately 1.3 billion tons of food is wasted every year — while 700 million people live in hunger.
In Germany alone, 12 million tons of food waste is generated annually. That's roughly 190 kilograms per person. Supermarkets, restaurants, households, farms — at every stage of the supply chain, edible food is discarded.
Meanwhile, food insecurity persists. Families skip meals. Children go to school hungry. Seniors choose between medication and food.
This is not a scarcity problem. It is a distribution problem.
We believe in circular food systems: capturing surplus food before it becomes waste, redistributing it to those who need it, and building sustainable pathways from farm to table to community.

Five Pillars of Food Sustainability
From capture to distribution to system change.
Capture & Collection
Working with supermarkets, restaurants, farms, and food producers to identify and collect edible surplus food before it becomes waste.
Direct Redistribution
Channeling captured surplus food to families in need through iKAUF, food vouchers, and community meals.
Food Vouchers & Access
Providing monthly food vouchers redeemable at iKAUF and partner supermarkets for fresh, quality food.
Community Cooking
Operating community kitchens where surplus food is prepared into nutritious meals and offering cooking classes.
Food Policy Reform
Advocating for systemic change: extended shelf-life laws, food waste reduction targets, and corporate accountability.
Our Work Supports Multiple SDGs
No Poverty
Direct food assistance reduces household expenses, freeing limited income for other essentials.
Zero Hunger
Redistributing food directly addresses food insecurity and malnutrition in vulnerable populations.
Good Health & Well-being
Access to fresh, nutritious food improves health outcomes and reduces food-related diseases.
Gender Equality
Food insecurity disproportionately affects women. Our programs prioritize female-headed households.
Responsible Consumption
Reducing food waste is a direct contribution to sustainable consumption patterns.
Climate Action
Food waste generates 8-10% of global emissions. Reducing waste directly fights climate change.
